sampling Lefevre Pond in Intro to Bio and Physics of Bio class

Many undergraduates majoring in Biological Sciences have pre-professional aspirations, leading to medical or graduate school. Others seek a variety of career opportunities in industry, government service or education. Our investigative laboratory courses and personalized honors program featuring individualized research projects with faculty mentors provide an excellent foundation for either advanced study or direct entry into the workplace. Throughout our curriculum we emphasize the excitement of discovery and the development of individual creativity and critical reasoning skills.

We offer both a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Science in addition to a minor for students majoring in other departments. These degree programs each have their own unique advantages and within them we gladly design individualized programs for students

  • who want to take as many science courses as possible while they prepare for graduate or professional school, or a career in industry, government, or education; or
  • who want a broad liberal arts education while they prepare for graduate or professional school, or a career in industry, government or education; or
  • who want flexibility in their program in order to minor in another department; or
  • who want to major in biology, but do not plan to pursue a career in biology.

In all cases, we strongly encourage participation in an undergraduate research project with faculty mentors either on our faculty or from any other life sciences department on campus. Our departmental Honors Program offers unique research opportunities that may be combined with either the Bachelor of Arts or the Bachelor of Science degree.
